A little bit about us...

Founded in 1999 and based in the Lancaster and Morecambe area, our members include professional artists, illustrators , writers, sculptors and musicians.

Originally Quicksand was founded by a small number of artists who believed that the support and experiences of other professionals would be beneficial to their own art practice. It has since grown to include other art forms, widening the groups' objectives. We exhibit together, encompassing these disciplines in the one exhibition space, where practicable. Our aim is to promote the group as a whole, working on local commissions and developing community projects. We are also responsible for setting up a self-financing amateur community arts group, (Poulton Arts Group) which is currently thriving.

In 2004 the group acquired premises at Mona House in Poulton, Morecambe, and have formed a Company Limited by Guarantee (Qsand Ltd). This company has taken responsibility for the management and earning potential of an Artist-led Arts Centre based in the building. The present owners, Heritage Trust for the North West are currently restoring the Grade II listed Georgian building, as a key feature in the regeneration of Poulton's townscape.

Our name evolved from Quicksand into Qsand as a result. It is hoped the group can promote the centre to benefit both professional and amateur artists, and members of the community. Qsand has gained charity status to facilitate this.

Qsand has a programme of projects and exhibitions for 2007. Membership is growing and we also have a number of associate members. It is hoped we can also form a ‘Friends of Qsand' for non-artists and sponsors interested in promoting the Arts in Morecambe, and are willing to help with essential fundraising and promotion.
